ABOUT US
EPICS is a program at Purdue University that allows teams of students to design, build, and deploy real systems to solve engineering-based problems for community service and education organizations. The EPICS Ecuador Team is currently working to build a community center in Lumbisí, Ecuador to provide an interactive, collaborative learning environment for both children and adults.
OUR PROJECT
Our team plans to take a trip to Lumbisí to work directly with our contacts in the village. The primary objective of our trip is to obtain feedback on the team’s progress toward the long-term goal of building a community center. This trip will allow us to continue developing construction plans in the coming semesters. It is crucial that we verify stakeholder needs by including them in the design; however, doing so has been difficult due to our geographical separation. While in Lumbisí, we will seek to continue building the relationship between the team and the community by incorporating ideas that they may have as well as reassessing the proposed design with our stakeholders needs. The team will also complete a small project for the community to continue our relationship and interact with the people of the village.
WHY CONTRIBUTE
The overarching goal of our EPICS team is to make a difference in Lumbisí by providing a space for education and community gatherings. Your support will help us move one step closer to completing the design and construction plans necessary to implement the building of the community center. The trip will provide motivation to the students by connecting their coursework to real-world experiences, while also showing them the difference their engineering work at Purdue can make to a community abroad. All of your donations will go towards funding our project while in Ecuador, as well as airfare for Purdue EPICS Ecuador team students to travel to Lumbisí, Ecuador. You can learn more about our project and see updates on our webpage at epics.ecn.purdue.edu/ecuador/.
