The Purdue Ice Hockey Club provides the highest level of competitive ice hockey on Purdue’s campus. The club competes against other colleges and universities as a part of the Indiana Collegiate Hockey Conference (ICHC) and the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), winning the ICHC League Championship just a few years ago. The club actively recruits student-athletes at a high cost “pay-to-play” model. The club travels to the Indianapolis area multiple times per week for practices and events and travels across the Midwest for games each September through February.
WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
The club receives a small financial allocation from the University but due to the high cost of ice rink rental, travel, and personal equipment, the average cost per club member is over $2,500 per year. Our goal of keeping club member dues at this rate or lower is dependent upon your help.
The club has realized a need to purchase it’s own skate sharpener. Our student-athletes' skates experience everyday wear-and-tear at practices and games. Because of this, their skates need to be sharpened every other week, at a minimum. Because practice ice time costs less in the later hours of the day, ice rink pro shops are rarely open while the club is practicing at the rink. The club’s heavy practice schedule does not allow for weekend travel to pro shops and thus, the student-athletes go without sharpened skates and are not “game ready” when the weekend’s competitions roll around. Funds would be used to purchase a skate sharpener, a supply of grinding rings, and a traveling case for the equipment.
