Purdue Mortar Board is hosting and collaborating with Purdue Student Government (PSG), Old Masters, Rising Professionals, Purdue Foundation Student Board (PFSB), Grand Prix Foundation, and Purdue Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life (FSCL) to help fight food insecurity on Purdue’s campus.
OUR PROJECT
Purdue Mortar Board is hosting a “Fundraiser War” between themselves and the above-listed organizations and affiliations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are utilizing crowdfunding for a virtual platform. This also allows us to change the rules slightly.
Traditionally, a “Fundraiser War” works with jars, and donations of pennies are “positive” points while donations of silver coins or dollars are “negative” points. The team with the most positive points wins the war. Donators could donate pennies to the cause they support and donate dollars or silver coins to the competitors. In our virtual platform, all donations will solely work as “positive points.”
WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
As student leaders, our organizations are dedicated to making Purdue’s campus a better place. Food insecurity on college campuses is not a stranger to Purdue, and the ACE Campus Food Pantry is a resource committed to fighting it. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a surge in loss of campus jobs and created impossibly long lines for take-out dining courts, creating food hardships for students and staff alike.
The ACE Campus Food Pantry is a student-run food pantry that solely runs on donations. Their commitment to fighting food insecurity on campus relies on donors, and Purdue Mortar Board and the other student organizations hope to join them in the fight. In addition, they are looking to purchase a new deep freezer, which can get extremely expensive. Donations to this cause will be split between ACE and a philanthropic cause of the Penny War winner’s choice. 100% of donations will be donated. The winner will receive bragging rights and a trophy courtesy of Purdue Mortar Board!
