Tom Maurer

In the fall of my sophomore year of high school, my grandfather was diagnosed with leukemia. He served in the 101st airborne division of the United States Army in the Vietnam war. Complications from his time in the army led to him later developing this disease and eventually loosing the battle against it. He has been and will continue to be someone i strive to emulate because of his commitment to his family, religion and country. He was know for his loyalty, quick wit, and hearty laugh. 

One of the main reasons I wanted to be the President of the Purdue chapter of Beta Theta Pi was to build on the amazing philanthropy was have because of how cancer has impacted my life. It gives a great joy to know that my and my brothers effort’s make a difference for millions of people across the world who are suffering just like my grandfather was. My goal is for our chapter to raise $65,000 for the Purdue Center for Cancer Research and to personally raise $350.
