EMPOWER WOMEN ENGINEERS

Women Engineering Student Organizations (WESO) group is asking for funding to support Women Engineers (WE) Week, an annual program in its second year that will highlight several on-campus women-run engineering student organizations. This will be a week-long event at the end of March, Women’s History Month, and each day will be hosted by an individual student organization from different disciplines within the College of Engineering.

The intention of WE Week is to create community among women in engineering across Purdue University. Through this, WESO aspires to establish a collaborative tone, encouraging women in engineering to support and learn from one another as well as furthering the mission of empowering students to succeed.

Will you join us in our mission to empower female engineers today?

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT?

The student organizations that make up WESO represent some of the undergraduate major programs with Purdue’s lowest female enrollment rates. It is with great enthusiasm that we look forward to celebrating Women’s History Month by fostering this community and publicly supporting women in engineering– both on campus and around the world. WE hold the persistent pursuit to empower women in engineering.

Support for such a week must cover the expenses each organization requires for their individual events. Each organization in WESO has planned a unique set of exciting activities, so a lump sum $4,000 is requested. This estimate includes materials for tabling events such as tables, banners, and trinkets. As well as materials such as food items, games, and other supplies for evening events. The funds will also be used to throw the WE Week Gala, which a gala to support women and non-binary individuals studying engineering and engineering-adjacent majors to conclude Women Engineers Week.

Supplying financial aid for these specifics for WE week will help each organization better advertise what they do, connect with other Women In X groups, and overall unite WESO to continue their work during the second annual WE Week. WE week is our chance to celebrate Purdue women engineers.

We have come so far as a community, and it is important that we acknowledge that. Having the week in Women’s history month further cements our celebrations. WE week is also a time to strengthen the bonds between majors so that we can continue to create a collaborative community for the women yet to come. Being in programs with the lowest women enrollment, support for each of our clubs is crucial to their survival. WE week presents an opportunity for us to expand our presences on campus, especially to freshman women completing their transition to majors. As a bonus, WE week is a way to connect our women engineers while having fun doing so.
