I'm passionate about Beta because of the community it has allowed me to build. I'm from South Dakota and was the only person on the west side of my state to continue my academic endeavors at Purdue this year. I made my first friend due to Boiler Gold Rush and really liked my Team Leader, Charlie Orris, who is a brother in the house. Because of him, I decided to rush and immediately felt welcome at Beta Theta Pi. They talked to me like a person they wanted to get to know rather than some kid they might offer a bid. I didn't know much the fundraising until I spoke Andrew Hardin, a philanthropy chair. He shared with me his stories and the difficult times he went to. His expression of vulnerability and compassion for the cause immediately resonated with me. It showed me that I could raise money for something important, something that could help a future friend, even save his life.
