The Wheel RIISE event was first established in 2019, thanks to the efforts of Shelby Gruss and RIISE’s founder, Leony Boudreau. What started as a single event to raise awareness for adaptive sports has since grown into so much more. Today, RIISE is a student organization dedicated to promoting sports mobility and showcasing the excellence of Paralympic athletes. Through Wheel RIISE and other community events, we foster inclusivity, advocate for accessibility, and demonstrate the power of adaptive sports to inspire and unite.
Each year, we host Wheel RIISE—a community showcase featuring a wheelchair basketball game, inspirational speakers, and opportunities to learn more about adaptive sports. This event not only highlights incredible athletes but also sparks conversations about inclusion, accessibility, and innovation in adaptive sports. Now, we need your support to make this year’s event our best yet!
This year, we’re aiming to expand the impact of Wheel RIISE by bringing in the University of Illinois wheelchair basketball team, guest speakers who are leaders in adaptive sports, and professional photographers and videographers to capture the event. Your donation will help cover essential costs, including:
Without the necessary funds, we risk limiting access to this free community event, which means fewer people will be exposed to the importance of adaptive sports and the incredible abilities of these athletes. Your support also helps us continue our year-round advocacy and community projects at no cost.
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to creating a more inclusive world through sports.
